Why Baby Sleep Training is So Important

During the first two months of life, babies have not developed a circadian rhythm, often referred to as the biological clock. In other words, they cannot tell the difference between night and day, waking, or sleeping. They do not have any routines on their own. It is up to parents to teach them, to be their baby sleep trainer. This baby sleep training is one of the most important gifts you can give to your child. Teaching them to sleep and wake independently has many benefits that will last them the rest of their lives.

Its common knowledge that babies need lots of sleep, much more than their parents. But the importance of their sleep is not just how much but also when and how they are sleeping. Everyone wakes up during the night a few times in between sleep cycles. Adults know how to put themselves back to sleep and often do not even realize they have awoken. A child without a baby sleep trainer doesn’t know how to do this but is still tired, so they fuss when they awake and deep sleep never occurs. When this happens several times a night, it leads to extreme tiredness not only in the baby but also in mom and dad.

Benefits for the Baby

Baby sleep coaching is crucial to your child. It allows your child to be well rested. They will be happier instead of fussy and cranky and more likely to adjust well to any changes. Sleep also allows children to process their day, to form memories both short and long term, and to learn language and cognitive functions more efficiently. Even for toddlers and young children, a baby sleep coach can be the difference between fighting to get shoes put on and teeth brushed or getting out the door on time.

However, good baby sleep also has some pretty significant health benefits too. For one, it helps build their immune system. Germ fighting cells called cytokines are produced only during deep sleep. Without these, your child is more likely to fall ill. Studies also show that children with poor sleep habits are more likely to become obese, develop heart disease and diabetes, and to exhibit symptoms of ADHD and ADD.

Benefits for Rest of the Family

When your baby is not sleeping well, the whole house is affected. For starters, you don’t get any sleep. You are lazy, irritable, not able to focus well; every little aspect of the day can be a real struggle. Preparing lunches, dinner, doing dishes, taking care of other children, and even getting alone time with your spouse all get put on the back burner, just waiting for a time when your baby isn’t fussing.

With a baby sleep trainer, things can be much different. An independent sleeper allows you to spend time with other children, your spouse, or just to get caught up on chores. You will be able to get more sleep, so you are well rested, making you happier, healthier, and a better parent.

Spring is Here: Here’s How to Properly Prepare Your Porch or Patio

According to a U.S. Department of Commerce report, furniture and home furnishings store sales totaled $9.51 billion in June 2017, up from $9.27 billion in June 2016. And as spring approaches, many homeowners are shifting their focuses from their indoor furniture setups to their outdoor furniture setups. This is especially the case with porches, which often need revitalizing after a long winter of disuse. But with a few quick an easy steps, you can make sure your porch is ready for the spring season as well as the influx of guests and company. Here are just a few ways to add some pizzazz to your porch and prepare for springtime.

Evaluate Rug and Flooring

Before you take a look at your current patio furniture or call an outdoor furniture company, take a look at your patio’s current flooring. Ideally, your patio flooring should be comfortable enough to stand on while barefoot, so don’t hesitate to invest in a new rug to add some comfort and style to the area. In most cases, it’s best to look for rugs that can be used both indoors and outdoors, but don’t neglect your personal style either. In a survey of over 2,000 consumers, 72.7% of respondents agreed that, “The design of my furniture reflects my personality,” and 67% of respondents agreed with the statement, “A lot can be said about a person from the furniture s/he owns.” With that in mind, if you can find a rug with a unique pattern that speaks to your personality, go for it!

Choose Comfortable Furniture

When you’ve adequately prepared the surrounding area, you can then shift your focus to the furniture itself. The key is to find pieces that have the perfect balance of functionality, durability, style, and affordability.

“Think: sturdy pieces with deep and cushioned seats. Double check for wonky dining chairs and tables… Don’t worry about having a fully matching set if you’re on a budget. Look for similar color and finish options and remember that comfort is your priority,” writes Zoe Gowen on Southern Living.

The Freedonia Group forecasts household furnishings demand to reach $34.9 billion in 2021.

The 6 Benefits of Making Clothes Donations

We all like the idea of giving back to the communities where we live. For many of us, the main thing that keeps us from doing this is that we just do not have the resources to make monetary donations. The good news is that we can do a lot for our fellow citizens by donating our time or our belongings. Many charities accept clothing donations, for example. If we cannot bring out items to the non-profit there are many charities that pick up donations.

The Benefits of Making Clothes Donations

  1. People can really use donated clothing. You may hate that green shirt you bought last year but someone else may be able to use it. You have probably heard of the phrase, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, right? That same principle applies to your used clothing. This is especially true for the clothing your kids have grown out of. About 80% of clothing that has been donated goes directly towards helping families in need. Whether you bring it in yourself or find charities that pick up donations, you will make a direct difference in the lives of people in your community.  Consider donating winter coats that your family can no longer wear. These items are always needed.
  2. It is great for the environment. Americans throw out about 12 tons of clothes and fabrics every year. Nearly 90% of that could be used by someone else. This means 12 tons of material would not be sent to landfills where it does no one any good. The clothes that are recycled this way keep someone from buying a new item and therefore a new one does not have to be made. The more items we can keep out of landfills, the better.
  3. It helps the economy. The unemployment rate in the United States is on the decline but that does not mean everyone who wants work has been able to find it. The unemployment rate for veterans is appallingly high, it hovers somewhere around 20.4% for veterans between the ages of 18 and 24. For all veterans that number is lower, it is about 10%, this is still much higher than the general national average. Recycling textiles and clothing was responsible for adding 17,000 jobs to the Unites States economy. When you donate your used clothing, you make this possible.
  4. It helps you become more organized. If you live in a region with actual seasons, organization experts recommend you go through your closet twice a year. Take out the clothes that have gone unworn for at least two seasons (two winters or two summers). Take out the clothes that no longer fit you. If you have lost weight, getting rid of your “fat clothes” will help you keep the weight off. Planning to give to charities that pick up donations, if you have a pick up time scheduled, that will give you a deadline to be ready for, will make you do that spring cleaning you may have been putting off.
  5. Build unity at work with a clothing drive. Contact area charities that pick up donations, schedule a pick up. Tell all your coworkers (and customers or clients if you have them) that you are holding a clothing drive and have everyone bring in their unwanted clothes. This will be a great way for your office to come together and maybe even get some good press coverage from the whole thing. Promote this on your social media channels.
  6. Save money on your taxes. Remember that any donation you make to a charity is tax deductible. If your donation is worth more than $250, you will need a receipt. Some people do not realize that item donations are viewed as the same as cash.

It is often a lot easier than you may think to make a big difference in the lives of people in your community. Even if you cannot donate money, you can always volunteer your time or your unwanted clothing. Unlike other things, these clothes will be used by someone and they will be very thankful for your generosity.

What Do You Need to Know Before You Begin Sleeping in an Adjustable Electric Bed? Find Out Now!

adjustable electric bedHave you recently purchased an adjustable bed, or are you thinking of getting one? If so, you’ve joined the many people across the world who understand the importance of better quality sleep. Adjustable beds give you the option to control which position you sleep in, which means that you can reduce chronic pain and avoid the discomfort of tossing and turning. However, this is a big change if you’ve only slept on a flat mattress before, so it’s important to understand the benefits of your adjustable bed before you begin using one.

What will you need to know about before using an adjustable bed? Here are three things you’ll need to keep in mind before you begin using one of these beds:
Figure out how to adjust your mattress.
One of the most important things you’ll need to know when buying an adjustable electric bed is how it functions. Those who have slept on flat mattresses have never needed to alter those beds in any way. The advantages of adjustable beds, however, are numerous when it comes to finding the best position to sleep in.

Let yourself play around with the settings of your bed, so you can find the most optimal comfort levels. You should be able to adjust your chest, neck, and head with one control and your legs with another, so you can sleep in a way that will best alleviate your pain.

Sleep in ways that will prevent discomfort.
Another thing you’ll need to understand about your adjustable bed is that it is designed to prevent cramping and discomfort during the night and upon waking. For example, many people are side-sleepers, but this actually puts too much pressure on the spine during the night. As a result, sleeping all curled up can actually do more harm than good, especially for those who suffer from chronic pain.

Once you have your adjustable bed, make sure that you use it the way it was intended. The National Sleep Foundation reports that back and neck pain, TMJ, and headaches are the most common reasons for disrupted sleep, and these symptoms may be relieved by paying attention to the proper use of an adjustable bed.

Understand the optional heating and massaging features.
Adjustable electric beds don’t just have adjustable mattresses that can raise your torso or legs. They also come with other options to keep you comfortable during the night. Craftmatic® brand adjustable beds can come equipped with optional heat and massage functions, for instance. These features can provide temporary relief from conditions such as low back pain, minor aches and pains due to muscular fatigue or overexertion, edema or swelling of the legs, poor local blood circulation of the legs, symptoms of hiatus hernia, nighttime heartburn, and symptoms of gastric reflux.

Additionally, the heating accessory itself may provide temporary relief from mild arthritis and joint pain, as well as muscle pain associated with stress and tension. Sleeping in an upright position, which is an option when using an adjustable electric bed, may even reduce or ease light and occasional snoring.

In short, there are numerous benefits to sleeping on an adjustable bed, especially if you have a chronic condition that keeps you up at night. Make sure you’re well-versed in how your adjustable bed works, so you can get the best sleep possible.
