Tips for Planning A Carnival Kid’s Party
Every kid loves a good carnival party, either for a birthday party or just a fun occasion. Obstacle courses, snow machines, balloons, inflatable water slides, group activities: they’re all great fun, great ways to spend quality time with friends and family, and even great exercise! (NASA says that just 10 minutes of jumping can be even better for your cardiovascular system than a 30 minute run, so maybe get a jump house rental big enough for the adults to take part in the activities, too!) If you are planning a party, or you’ve been afraid to try, here are some tips to make sure it’s a success:
Make Things Colorful
Balloons are one way to do this, of course, but you can also hang your own colorful linens from clotheslines or ropes to lend a festive atmosphere to the whole occasion. You can also tie colorful cloth to chairs, and use bright tablecloths to display food, snacks, gifts, or on activity booths. If you have other adults or older kids helping, have them dress in a carnival style uniform–at least matching colorful aprons–and the small ones will take great memories home from the impressions they get.
Go Inflatable
There’s a reason that jump houses are among the most popular activities at any kind of carnival party. They’re great fun for everyone! Inflatable toys are a great way to provide fun activities that don’t have to cost a lot of money or live forever in your yard and never get used again. This is a testament to the popularity of an industry that has only been around for about 50 years, but has been growing steadily all that time. Don’t Skimp
Nearly 25% of parents, according to the T. Rowe Price 2016 Parents, Kids and Money Survey, spent more than $300 last year on a children’s birthday party. And while you might not want to make a big splurge every year, you can’t put a price on the memories and friendships your child will take away from a great birthday party. And since the majority of parents are choosing to remain with their children at parties, especially when the kids are under 10, there’s no reason birthday parties and activities can’t also be a memorable part of the parent/child bond, too.
Be Creative on Activities
In addition to rentals like a snow machine or bounce house, be creative in coming up with activities the kids can do when they need a break from something active like jumping. These could include a simple fishing game using a kiddie pool, spray targets or water gun carnival games, or something like dropping a clothespin or other slender item into the mouth of a bottle. Try tossing ping pong balls into colorful glasses, or setting up a temporary tattoo booth or face painting station.
