Issues having to do with church construction and furniture have certainly changed over the years. During the first few centuries of Christianity, there were not many church buildings because it was commonly illegal to practice the religion in certain areas. During the 19th century, there were debates as to whether pews should be rented out to congregants, particularly in the Church of England. This dispute led to “Free Churches” such as the Free Methodist Church, where there were no rentals.

Gallup reports that close to 70% percent of people in the United States say they go to church periodically at the very least. With this in mind, you may want to consider getting new church pews, especially if they are worn down after years of use. Certain varieties of pews include footrests and seats that are cushioned–these may be ideal for periods of extended prayer. Other pews are more simple, made only of wood. Pews are even used as seating near the entrancea of homes or as seating at tables.
