How to Prevent Clogged Gutters
Clogged gutters are a hassle that many homeowners face. Leaves, dirt, tree branches, and other debris can fall into open gutters and clog the gutter, which leads to roof leaks and foundation damage. This video shows how to use a makeshift gutter cover to prevent clogged gutters from happening.
To accomplish this, you need a ladder to safely work on the gutter, metal mesh, and wire cutters. The first step is to clean out the gutter and downspout from any debris. This may require detaching the downspout from the home if the clog is substantial.
Next, grab your metal mesh. You can grab this from your local gardening and home store. Cut a section of the mesh out and shape it to sit within the inside edge of the downspout. Use gloves and pliers to easily shape the mesh to your liking.
Finally, fit the metal mesh into the downspout. Don’t shove it all the way down. The idea is that the metal mesh will act as a barricade to debris that would otherwise clog the downspout. It will let water through uninterrupted.
