Understanding Your Home Generator
If you live in an area that suffers from frequent blackouts and power outages, it may be necessary to find an option to provide your home power. Many people use generators in order to power their homes in emergency situations. Before choosing to purchase a generator, it’s important to understand the options and how to use them.
The most common option people rely on is a portable generator that runs on gasoline. These should be run outside of the home to avoid dangerous fumes building up inside and require homeowners to run an extension chord from the generator to the inside.
This is a great choice to keep the essential items running in your home, such as the refrigerator, sump pump, or your water heater. Depending on the size of the generator, they may only run between 400 to 800 dollars, making them a cost-efficient option.
Another way to utilize the same style portable generator is to run a 30 amp cord into the home as opposed to various extension cords. This is a great option because it cuts the number of wires you will have to step over. The biggest drawback is the price, as it requires you to have an electrician come in and install a new outlet on the exterior of your home.
